Book Review: Ramses by Christian Jacq

An exciting journey

Whenever the grandeur of Ancient Egypt is evoked, there is one name which comes immediately to mind – Ramses the second, the pharaoh who reigned for more than sixty years.

Here, he is still only fourteen years old. His father, Seti, is worshipped by his people and has made his empire the most powerful in the world. But who will be his successor? Should it be his eldest son, Shanaar, a calculating schemer; or Ramses, still passionate and impetuous?  Unbeknowst to Ramses, Seti sets about teaching him his supreme duty. But will Ramses escape the machinations of his brother? And how will he choose between Iset the Fair and the mysterious Nefertari?

Why I liked it:
It tells the story of how Ramses became king, why he became king and what he had to go through to have his name in history books.

Rating out of 5 stars: 4.5
