Book Review: A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Name: Nur Afiqah Hj Md Isa
Class: Year 10 X

“Unexpected things coming your way!”

Conor has the same dream every night, ever since his mother first fell ill, ever since she started the treatments that don’t quite seem to be working. But tonight is different. Tonight, when he wakes, there’s a visitor at his window. It’s ancient, elemental, a force of nature. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.
It wants the truth.

Why I liked it: It was one of the weirdest stories I’ve ever read. I thought that this book would go along  expectedly (cliché), but from the start until the end, it has proved that it hadn’t.  Other than that, I’ve also picked up two things from this book;
                          1. Not all the heroes are the good guys,
                          2. The truth is painful to admit.

Rating out of 5 stars: 4 / 5

Other books that you might enjoy: The Kneebone Boy by Ellen Potter (for more weirdness and  unexpected thingsJ)  The Monsters of Men series (also) by Patrick Ness
